Located in East Africa, Uganda hosts the largest refugee population in Africa. The majority of its 1.4 million refugees are women and children.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Bank has been working in Uganda since 2007. Through our numerous development cooperation projects, women have successfully strengthened their livelihoods, particularly through savings and loan groups.<\/p>\n

Around 45 million people, nearly half of whom are under the age of 14.<\/li>\n
Agriculture is the country\u2019s main source of livelihood, employing nearly 70% of the workforce.<\/li>\n
Traditionally, men engage in paid work while women take care of the home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
In 2025: 2,500 women improved their livelihoods<\/h3>\n
Currently we are supporting women\u2019s employment and entrepreneurship near the country\u2019s capital, Kampala, in the rural area of Mityana. This is also where Women\u2019s Bank\u2019s first social poultry business, Chiggi, operates.<\/p>\n
Not only do farmers learn new farming techniques, but they can also sell their maize harvest to the poultry farm, which operates based on the principles of sustainable development. This contract farming has provided women with stable incomes while also benefiting the poultry business.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s savings and loan groups, as well as vocational training programs, have proven to be an effective way to enable women to develop other sources of income.<\/p>\n
Results from last year:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1,000 women entrepreneurs have received comprehensive support to develop their businesses.<\/li>\n
700 women participate in producer groups.<\/li>\n
2,500 women are members of savings and loan groups.<\/li>\n
